Google Chrome OS - The Next Generation of Operating System
Friday, 20 November 2009 02:35

I just finished reading a very interesting article over at Tech Crunch about Google's new operating system called Chrome OS. Google is really putting a lot of energy into this project and they believe it will pay dividends in the long run. It is an interesting concept to say the least, and if Google is prepared to invest billions of dollars to foster this new technology, chances are they have good reasons for it. You should definitely check out the full article which documents Sundar Pichai (Google’s VP of Product Management) and Matthew Papakipos (Google’s Engineering Director for Google Chrome OS) while they hold an introductory presentation about Google Chrome OS. Here is a short video explaining just what Google Chrome OS really is. This video was produced by Google, so expect a bit of 'horn tooting' for Chrome OS.

Let’s say you have an idea for a startup. Where do you begin the proccess of building your idea into a success? There are many steps in the process starting with finding cofounders and employees, creating a corporation, finding investors, growing the company, and the list goes on. There are many elements that one needs to think about when launching a startup that are usually a mystery to the newly initiated founder. Usually most of this stuff is learned on the job or through making mistakes along the way.

You may have recently read in the press about the $170 million acquisition of Mint.com by Intuit. Here is a great video of a presentation by the founder and CEO of Mint.com Aaron Patzer in which he discusses the step-by-step proccess of begining a startup:

Introduction to Basic Web Site Structure
Thursday, 08 October 2009 22:12

Building a Web site with optimization in mind greatly increases the likelihood that the search engines will successfully locate and index pages on your Web site. Search-engine ranking algorithms look at many on-site factors when figuring out where a Web page ranks for particular keywords. Some of these factors include: content, domain name, whether or not the website works on all browsers, Web site structure, accessibility of all your pages, navigational linking structure and the credibility of the Web site.

On-site factors are very important in the process of search engine optimization (SEO). A well-optimized design and Web site structure help to improve the overall performance of the Web site, help users to navigate it, and allows the search engines to find and index all of your Web sites content.

During the process of Web site design or redesign, you should be asking yourself the following two basic questions:

  • Will the site appeal to my visitors?
  • Is the site search-engine friendly?
A proper balance needs to be struck between relevant content that your Web site visitors will find useful, and the way the content is presented so that the search engines will rank your Web site highly for your chosen keywords.
